Read the background to Nina's inspiration for her choreography....
In September 2012, after a short terminal illness, I lost my young Auntie, Louise Holmes to a brain tumour. She was diagnosed with Grade IV Glioblastoma in July 2011.
I started my first term at Tring Park in lower sixth in September 2012, Louise's passing gave it a very sad start for me. In the following sixth months, I also lost both of my Nannas.
I wanted to pay a tribute to Louise's tragically short life, and felt the best way I could do this was through dance. By choreographing this piece, it was the best way to pay tribute to Louise's
story and keep her memory alive. Louise had a very simple and ordinary life and would have been humbled and moved to have all these amazingly talented people pay tribute to her!
I got together the best team I could have asked for; Isabella Read playing my auntie, Joao Carloino playing my aunties husband and Vernon Anderson playing the Guardian Angel. I thought that having
live music would top the performance off and I am lucky enough for my friends to be extremley talented as musicians; Jemima Loddy sung whilst Ben Radford played the piano. The song I used was
'Angel' by Sarah McLachlan.
I was overwhelmed and honoured to win the first 'Dance Again' Audience Award for choreography in 2014. Obviously everyone loved the piece as much as I did!
Hugo Cortes talked in moving terms to the guests at the Gala 2013 about how delighted he was to find Dance Again Foundation. We supported him as he recovered from the serious achilles injury he sustained. With the extra physio he made rapid progress and is well on way to be back on stage in STOMP!
Dance Again with Hobbs presented an Autumn Shopping Evening on Tuesday 25th September 2013, which was a great success raising further funds and awareness for the Dance Again Foundation. A thoroughly enjoyable evening was had by all, as a result Hobbs and DAF are keen to repeat the evening in the near future.
The evening involved:
- Private viewing of the autumn collection of clothes and accessories
- Personal styling
- A glass of fizz and food
- Complimentary 10% discount on any purchase
- Chance to win £200 worth of gift cards for Hobbs
- HOBBS donated 10% from the purchases made that evening to Dance Again Foundation.
The initial Gala Evening 2012 was a great success, raising over £15,000 to kick start the charity. Many thanks to all those who attended and gave so generously. Also thanks to everyone who was involved in the organisation especially Liz Jones who worked tirelessly to ensure it was a success. The photographs are by Helen Shand. Delicious food was by Five Star.
We were delighted that the performance of The World Goes 'Round' at the Egg Theatre, Theatre Royal Bath on the 18th March 2013 was dedicated to the Dance Again Foundation.
The World Goes 'Round is a Kander and Ebb musical and was a seamless rollercoaster ride through the songs of Broadway songwriting team Kander and Ebb, author of Cabaret, Chicago along with
hit songs such as New York New York.
Filled with humour, romance, drama, nonstop melody and brassy, insightful lyrics, this was a thrilling celebration of music and life.
It was brought to Bath by talented final year students from the Guildford School of Acting including students who were friends with Jack at Tring Park.
We are very grateful to these talented young performers for thinking of our charity and were so pleased to receive the money from the post show collection.
Dance Again welcomes the opportunity to attend any performances or shows to promote the work of our charity and spread the word to performers and their audiences or can send promotional posters on request.
